Logbook, 1898-1900.

Logbook (March 1, 1898-July 13, 1900) kept by M.A. Davenport while serving on the U.S.S. Oregon Battleship. Contains entries recording events during the Spanish-American War and Philippine campaign; information includes "remarks" from the HMS Christobal Colon (English translation from Spanish), battle account (July 3, 1898) in Manila Bay with list of crew members present, list of ports visited with arrival and departure dates, navy codes, and poems.

The U.S.S. Oregon was built at Union Iron Works, San Francisco. It was launched on October 26, 1893 and served in the Spanish-American War (1898) and Philippine campaign (1899-1900), World War I and World War II. The vessel was purchased by the state of Oregon for purposes of a memorial in 1925. It was recommissioned for World War II, used as a scrap and ammunition depot, and scrapped out March 15, 1956.
